Why Ahwatukee?
Ahwatukee is an urban village within the City of Phoenix.
Tucked behind the South Mountain Preserve, Ahwatukee is the southernmost part of Phoenix with a population of about 85,000.
Location
Ahwatukee is bordered on the north by South Mountain, on the east by Interstate 10 and the cities of Chandler and Tempe, and on the south and west by the Gila River Indian Community. Sometimes referred to as the "World's Largest Cul-de-sac", Ahwatukee is home to three zip codes: 85044, 85045, and 85048.
Community
Although annexed by the City of Phoenix between 1982 and 1987, before substantial residential growth, many of Ahwatukee’s residents do not strongly associate their region with the rest of the Phoenix, due in part to its unique geographic isolation. This creates a tight-knit community which has fostered the growth of many locally-owned businesses and restaurants.
Diversity
Homes in Ahwatukee range from smaller 55+ communities to large, custom estates nestled up against South Mountain. There are a plentiful amount of 1980s to 1990s homes with better then average amenities, drawing many families to the area, as well as brand new homes, mainly in the western part of Ahwatukee. Many communities feature lakes or golf courses as their main attraction.
